HOW NOT TO FAIL IN THE NEW YEAR
The word Afailure@ is not seen in the Bible at all, but the word Afail@ appears 64 times, Afailed@ 12 times, Afaileth@ 19 times and Afailing” 2 times (Deut.28:65; Lk.21:29).
We often talk about success: Athe path to success,@ Athe requirement for success@ How to be successful etc. There is the need for us to also examine why those who failed in the past failed so that through that we will be able to learn how not to fail.I. THE MAJOR CAUSES OF FAILURE IN LIFE
Here are some of the people whose cases we are going to examine at this time: Eve, Cain, Esau, Saul, Rehoboam, Judas,
1. Adam & Eve: Gen.3:1-8, 23-24
Inability to fully trust and abide by the word of God (Ps.1:1-3; Jos.1:8).
2. Saul: I Sam.13:5-16
Refusal to continue to wait for God in the time of difficulty (Isa.40:31).
3. Cain: Gen.4:3-12
Refusal to admit one’s error and make the necessary corrections.
4. Esau: Gen.2732-36
Handling important things carelessly (Gen25:29-34; Heb.12:16-17).
5. Rehoboam: I Kg.12:1-16
Rejection of good counsel
6. Judas: Mt.26:14-16
Love of money (Mt.27:3-5).
Other Causes:
1. Lack of plan
2. Misplaced priority
3. Imitation
4. Carelessness
5. Backsliding
6. Lack of Endurance
7. Unfaithfulness
8. Covetousness
II. HOW NOT TO FAIL

(b) Surrender your life to Jesus fully.
(c) Become a full and serious member of a living church of Christ.
2. Take your Christian responsibilities seriously:
– Prayer
– Bible
– Fellowship
– Witnessing
– Resisting the devil.
3. Pray, plan and prepare to take your sources of income seriously (Rm.12:11).

SERMON OUTLINE
THE SUPERIORITY OF ACTION OVER THE WORD
The will of God is different from that of man. The will of God for everyone living
on earth today is to do well. God does not force anything on any man. The only thing God has been forcing and will continue to force on anyone is judgment. Jesus is the revealer of God to man.
Jh.1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
Deut. 30:15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
Here are the examples of the actions of people over their words.
1. Solomon (I Kgs 3:9).
I Kgs 3:9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
2. The Psalmist (Ps. 119:30)
Ps.119:30 I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.
3. Mary the sister of Lazarus (Lk.10:42).
Lk.10: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
4. Moses (Heb. 11:25).
Heb.11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
Your action will determine what God will do with your life this year (Mt. 7:21; Mt.21:28-31).
The same will determine what the devil will do with your life.
I. A CASE STUDY
The following is the story of two brothers with word and action.
Mt.21:28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. 29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. 30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. 31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
Exo. 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. 27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
II. THE RESULT OF YOUR ACTIONS
1. To enjoy the blessing of God Deut. 28:1-14
(a) It is when you hearken diligently to the words of God that you can enjoy the promises attached.
(b) All of these is action “if”. . . . . The word “if” is the action over the promised words.
(c) It is your action that will determine what God will do for you.
2. To overcome satan you need to act (I Peter 5:8).
I Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
3. To prepare yourself to overcome spiritual force (Eph. 6:1-).
Eph.6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
4. To deliver yourself from the devourers (Mal. 1:8-10).
Mal.3: 8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
5. If you want the grace of God to abound upon your life, run from sin (Rom.8:1; I Cor. 6:18).
Rom.6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
6. Prayer is necessary, positive confession will also help but action is more necessary.
Nu 14:28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you: New Year Day Service Message 1/1/2013
